What is included in a membership?

Students can take tests, do practice drills, use flash cards, and use tools for free.


Do I need to buy anything beyond a membership to have my BrainPond.com webpage online for students to access?

When you subscribe to a membership you gain access to tools to make your own Problem Sets that can be used either for Practice Drills or Tests (Online or printed versions), tools to make your own website (word processor like) including clip art as well as backgrounds & templates, and features to make online flash cards. Your webpage can easily be accessed by students on BrainPond.com system.

Do I have to set up a roster for students access tests, practice drills, or flash cards?

Nothing needs to be setup for students to use the features or take tests online. You control who can access your tests and practice drills by using passwords of your choice and start and end availability dates. When students take a test they enter the password and their name. Everything else is automatic.

How do I make a test?

(1) Log into BrainPond.com using your member user id and password; (2) click on 'Your Testing Center' button; (3) Click on 'Add a new ProblemSet' to add a new group of questions for a test or practice drill or Click on the 'View, Add, Change, Delete Problems' button to add a question to an existing Problem Set.

Can I make a test available online for my students?

Log in using your Member id and password, to the 'Your ProblemSet Cabinet, then enter a start date and end date in those fields to replace or enter availability dates.

Can I control when the test is available?

Log in using your Member id and password, to the 'Your ProblemSet Cabinet, then enter a start date and end date in those fields to replace or enter availability dates.

Can I secure a test with a password?

Log in using your Member id and password, to the 'Your ProblemSet Cabinet, then enter a password in the 'password' field to replace or enter a password.

How do students access a test?

Students just click on the 'Student Testing Center' button in the menu then select your test and enter the password to take the test.

What kind of questions can I use?

You can use multiple choice, true/false, yes/no for online testing and practice drills. You can use these plus fill-in-the-blank or discussion for printed tests.

Can I put graphics on a question?

You can use a link in the question to point to a graphic to use in the question. On your webpage you can point to a link or upload your graphic by clicking on the image upload button in the web page editor tool.

Can I print a test instead of putting it online for students?

(1) Log into BrainPond.com using your member user id and password; (2) click on 'Your Testing Center' button; (3) Click on the 'View, Add, Change, Delete Problems' button to view a Problem Set' (4) Click on 'Print this ProblemSet in test Format' link on top left portion of screen to set options and print the test.

Do students get their online test results?

Test are graded and results shown to students as soon as they finish the test and click on the 'Click to Submit Test for Your Score' button at the bottom of the online test.

Can I get an automatic notification if a student takes one of my online tests?

Log in using your Member id and password then click on 'Change Your Profile Settings' to review your profile settings. Make sure that 'Get email student took test (Y/N)' is set to YES to get email notifications automatically as soon as a student finishes a test.

Can I access test scores online?

Click on the 'Teacher Access' menu button and choose 'Testing Center'. Then enter your 'Member id' and password AND Click on 'Review Tests Taken by My Students' button to see the grade book summary of all students scores. Click on a student view button to see the actual test and print that test or all student tests for that test by click on the print button at the top of the screen.

Can I mass print all test scores for a given online test?

Each question is scored as the student answers it. The number of correct and incorrect and score are displayed as each question is checked.



What do you need to create your own webpages on BrainPond.com?

You will need a Windows-based personal computer, access to the Internet, a member userid and password. Activex nor cookies are required to use this website. At this time Internet Explorer and FireFox browsers should work but MAC (SAFARI) will not.


Can I use my own domain to point to my web pages?

Yes, if you have a membership subscription. Point your domain to our servers as 'ns1.netfirms.com' and 'ns2.netfirms.com' then email us at addmydomain@BrainPond.com sending us your domain name, member id, and email address. You will receive an email from us at your member email address after we have verifed that you are a member. We will communication the status to you. That is all you have to do.


Is BrainPond.com free?

Student access to teacher websites, and other resources, on BrainPond is free. Teachers are required to signup for a membership to have use of teacher tools including, a word processor type web page maker, clip art/backgrounds/emotiocons/animations for your web page, a testing center, a practice center, and a flash card center.


Is is possible to use the Teacher Member Pond to contribute to its improvement?

In some cases, teachers are approved to use this web site at no cost during a period of time to provide feedback to BrainPond to improve the functionality and quality of the system(s) used. BrainPond LLC will make every attempt to notifiy the users of any changes that might impact them.


When I add links to my web site, why they don't work sometimes?

You can add links to your links web page. However, even though BrainPond does not use cookies or Activex, some external links do. If you are having a problem with a link, it is a good idea to look at the site and see if pop-ups, cookies, or Activex features are required.


What do I need to do to print my personal or private teacher calendar?

You can print your calendar from your calendar web editor tools. Just go to either you private or public calendar then use your Internet browser toolbar print feature (choose file, set you printer to print in 'landscape', then print that calendar).


How can I remove or change events that I have added to my calendar?

Events in your calendar can be removed or changed very easily. Just go to that calendar using your calendar web editor tools. Just go to either you private or public calendar then click on the 'Delete/Modify Events' link at the top of the calendar. All events in your calendar will be displayed and can be deleted or modified.


Editor: How can I spell check my web page content?

If you are using the web page editor to create or change your content, you can try to spell check by doing the following: highlight the paragraph containing the text to be spell checked then click on the spell check icon in the toolbar. If your computer is setup for this feature then you should be prompted for correcting misspelled words. However if your system does not allow activex plugins or is has inproper Internet Explorer settings, then the spell check feature will likely not work. Warning: be care when spell checking. Your format can change. If you have this problem you can always close the editor without saving changes.


Editor: When I press the return key to enter the next line of text a double space occurs. How do I get a single space?

To single space, simply hold the shift key down at the same time as you press the return key.


Editor: When I use a template with a border, what if my content displays on the top of the border?

You can shift your content to the right by highlighting your content by dragging the mouse over it, then click on the "indent right" icon in the keyboard several times until you are satisfied.


Print: How can I preview a teacher newletter to see where the page break is before actually clicking on the print icon on the webpage?

You can see a draft of the print by clicking on the Intenet Explorer File selection in the toolbar then click on Print Preview. You should see where the break will be. You will, also, see the menu selection or left side of your screen but this will not actually print when you click on the icon to print the page.


  • FlashCards: How can I enter a double quote in the Flash Card description or front or back text?

    If you enter a double quote in your text or description the system will change it to a single quote. You can create a double quote that the system will allow by simply entering two single quotes in a row. They look like a double quote!


  • Photo Resizing: How can I reduce the size of pictures so that they can be uploaded to my personal directory on BrainPond.com?

    When you upload a photo using our web editor, the size is automatically optimized to a smaller but web standard resolution. That will allow you to upload more photos without running out of space in your personal directory. Another option is to use our free online photo resizer tool lets you resize photos and save them on your personal computer. You can choose from different size options and see them before saving them. Remember to save you photo under a new name if you want to retain the original on your computer. The tool is on our www.BrainPond.com home page... Just click on the link and use it for free!


  • Pasting from Word: Can I paste from word into my webpage?

    If you paste directly into your web page, from Word for example, it will probably look pretty good. But making changes to it, like changing the background, can be difficult if not impossible.


  • No tool bar: I sometimes see a font of strange text when I go to edit one of my web pages. Why?

    Occasionally the Windows/Browser will go to sleep and not active the tool bar. When this happens you will see strange text and no tool bar. You should be able to wake it up by clicking on the refresh icon on top of your browser. That should make everything look like it should look.

    Click on the 'Teacher Access' button and select 'Flash Card Center' then enter your 'member id' and password to get to the Teacher's Flash Card Tools menu

    FlashCards: How log into maintain my flash cards?

    Click on 'Step 1. Add and maintain Flash Cards' selection on the Teacher's Flash Card Tools menu, then pick a Flash Card to maintain or click on 'Add a new set of flash cards' selection. If accessing an existing flash card set, then you can Delete, Add, Modify, or add flash cards on this submenu or print the flash card set from this submenu.

    FlashCards: How do I make a set of flash cards viewable or printable by students?

    Click on 'Step 2. Move Flash Cards to website for Students' selection on the Teacher's Flash Card Tools menu, then click to put online for students or make the flash card set available for other teachers to use.

    FlashCards: Can I see which flash cards are on the student's screen to practice with or print?

    Click on 'Step 3. Show Flash Cards for Students' to view of your flash cards that can be used for practice to printing, just click on the selection on the Flash Card Sets screen.

    FlashCards: How can I remove flash cards from the student's view page?

    Click on 'Step 4. Remove Flash Cards for Students' on the 'Teachers Flash Card Tools' menu and choose the ones you want to remove.

    FlashCards: Can I use flash cards that other teachers have put in the community view?

    Click on 'Community Flash Cards Sets' on the 'Teachers Flash Card Tools' menu and choose the ones you want to share with teachers on the community screen.

    FlashCards: How can I remove flash cards from the Community Pool view?

    Click on 'Remove Flash Cards from Community Pool' on the 'Teachers Flash Card Tools' menu and choose the ones you want to remove.
